GTA 5 Mission Routes: U4GM Player Guide
GTA 5 doesn't really have one neat mission count, and that's where plenty of players get tripped up. Story Mode officially records 69 missions, but a normal save can include extra setups, family scenes, and route-specific jobs. If you're returning to Los Santos with GTA 5 Accounts, it helps to separate campaign progress from everything GTA Online has added. The Kortz Center Heist is Online content, not mission 70 in the single-player story, even though it has a full planning chain and a proper finale.
Story Mode Counts and Branches
The 69 figure is the clean number shown by the game's campaign tracking. A fuller playthrough can land closer to 74 missions because heist choices unlock different prep work. Count every alternative route, optional Michael family mission, and all three endings, and the total rises to roughly 83 playable entries. You can't see every branch in one uninterrupted run, though. Pick Freighter instead of Offshore for Merryweather, for example, and the unused setup remains unavailable on that save.
| Mission view | Count | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Official campaign progress | 69 | Core Story Mode tracking. |
| One expanded route | Up to 74 | Selected setups and extra story scenes. |
| All story branches | About 83 | Every route and ending counted separately. |
| Kortz Center Heist | Online only | Separate from the campaign count. |
A Practical Route Through Los Santos
The opening run is fairly direct: Prologue, Franklin and Lamar, Repossession, Complications, Father/Son, Pulling Favors, Chop, Marriage Counseling, Daddy's Little Girl, Friend Request, and The Long Stretch. Don't skip Pulling Favors because it looks like side content; it actually blocks progress. Then comes Casing the Jewel Store, the chosen loud or smart prep, and The Jewel Store Job. Trevor's arrival opens Mr. Philips, Trevor Philips Industries, Nervous Ron, Crystal Maze, and Friends Reunited before the three-character plot starts bouncing around. Later, the big landmarks are Merryweather, Blitz Play, the Paleto Score, the Bureau Raid, and The Big Score. Make a manual save before choosing Something Sensible, The Time's Come, or The Third Way. It'll save you a lot of grief.
Kortz Center Planning and Solo Runs
The July 2026 Kortz Center Heist starts with a scope-out, then asks you to choose infiltration gear, an unmarked weapon package, and an escape vehicle. Access Code and Hacking Device jobs are mandatory. Guard Shipments, Guard Routes, Glass Cutter, Power Drills, and EMP Charges are situational. For a quiet solo attempt, the Staff Key Card, Security Loadout, and Annihilator Stealth make a sensible base. Guard Routes are handy while you're learning patrols, but experienced players may not need the extra job. Check the buyer request during scouting, too. If a required artwork piece lands in the two-player Crisp Gallery, a solo Elite run is dead before the finale even begins.
What Makes the New Heist Worth Replaying
Kortz is at its best when your prep pays off in the building: mapped guards, weaker security, a case opened with the Glass Cutter, then a cleaner escape. The laser room can still feel rough, since GTA movement isn't built for tiny, exact steps. Slow inputs usually beat jumping. Weekly reward changes also mean players now weigh time against payouts, especially when they buy GTA 5 Money to fund properties, gear, or another heist setup rather than grind the same finale all night.
