The build turns Wither Mark detonations into a steady source of damage, while Parry gives you a way to punish anyone who gets too confident. You will need to manage stamina and spacing, though. Charging in without a plan usually ends with a missed swing and a very long recovery animation. Early gear upgrades also matter, so keeping some Mistfall Hunter Gyldenblod available can make the climb towards a proper damage setup much less frustrating.

Skills That Keep the Pressure On

Breakthrough Charge should usually be your way into melee range. It closes distance quickly and gives you a clear starting point for the rest of the attack sequence. With the right perks, its second hit can help trigger the detonation plan, so do not treat it as just a movement skill. Parry is your main answer to aggressive melee attacks. After a clean block, use Riposte and follow with a heavy Greatsword strike when the opening is real. It is not an automatic combo, and rushing the follow-up can get you punished. Hook is more situational. Save it for the end of a dodge, a missed attack, or a committed animation. A random Hook often does nothing except waste a valuable tool.

Talent Choices and Damage Flow

Start with the three Greatsword talents. They provide the basic damage needed to make every close-range exchange matter. Bad Karma is the build's main engine because it lets Wither Mark continue stacking through repeated detonations. That means you should think in short attack cycles rather than one giant burst. Apply pressure, trigger the mark, and look for the next chance to detonate it. Momentum fits naturally with Breakthrough Charge and helps the opening sequence flow into sustained damage. Pick both Parry perks for stronger Super Armor and better cooldown value. The two Breakthrough Charge perks are worth taking as well, since they improve its reliability and add more chances to support your detonation pattern.

Gear, Low Health, and Real Combat Decisions

For blue gear, Valor gives you useful attack power, while Strife improves physical damage against nearby targets. Wrath is the piece that changes how the build feels. Once your health drops below half, your offensive pressure increases, so low HP is not always a signal to run. If the enemy is also badly hurt, staying on them may be the safer choice. That does not mean you should ignore danger. A missed Parry, an empty stamina bar, or a failed Charge can leave you with no way out. Fervor is a strong purple option because the build keeps detonating Wither Mark during longer exchanges. Its value grows as your attack sequence continues, rather than appearing all at once.

PvP Rotation and Matchup Advice

A practical opening looks like this: Breakthrough Charge, dodge light attacks, force defensive movement, then wait for Parry. If it lands, use Riposte and bring out the heavy strike before applying more Wither pressure. Heavy attacks are powerful, but throwing them out in neutral is asking to be interrupted. Against ranged characters, close the gap quickly with Charge and use Hook only when their movement becomes predictable. Assassins require more patience. Do not try to Parry every hit in a long combo; wait for the attack they keep repeating. Mercenaries demand respect for Super Armor, so let an armoured heavy finish before you counter. Against Seers, use Parry in response to a clear threat. Holding it constantly makes your movement easy to read.

PvE Use and Habits Worth Keeping

The same setup works well in PvE because its burst can remove ordinary enemies and elites before their mechanics become a problem. Against bosses, do not tunnel on damage. Learn which attacks can be Parried, then use Charge and Hook to return to the fight after a disengage. Bad Karma performs best when you keep the mark cycle active, but there is no prize for forcing a detonation into a bad position. Common mistakes include spamming heavy attacks, throwing Hook without a target, and retreating the moment Wrath activates. Chasing an enemy across the whole arena is another trap. If the opponent has fully reset, recover your stamina and choose a better angle. With careful spending on upgrades and sensible use of cheap Mistfall Hunter Gold, the Greatsword can stay dangerous from early progression through serious PvP play.
