A crowded fight in Path of Exile 2 can turn bad before the largest enemy gets close. A distant attacker may keep landing hits while a nearby creature blocks an escape route, and another foe may interrupt the skill you need to survive. Even decisions about spending POE 2 Orbs matter less in the moment than reading the pack and choosing a useful opening target.

There is no universal kill order. The right choice depends on what can stop your next action, how quickly you can remove that threat, and whether staying in place is still worthwhile.

Read the Threats Before Committing

Look for enemies that restrict movement, interrupt attacks, or apply effects that become harder to manage over time. A fast creature closing from the side may be more urgent than a slower, sturdier foe ahead. If a status effect is building or repeated hits are forcing you to retreat, identify which enemy is causing it before committing to a long attack sequence.

Ranged attackers deserve attention when their shots overlap with pressure from nearby enemies. Their individual damage may seem modest, but repeated projectiles can limit safe movement and make it difficult to aim. Enemies that shield, strengthen, or otherwise protect their allies can also rise to the top of the list, especially when that support extends the fight.

Check the space around you as well as the health bars. A target beside a clear escape route may be safer to approach than a closer enemy positioned between you and open ground. The best first target is often the one that removes the greatest immediate problem without forcing you into a worse position.

Match the Opening to Your Build

Area damage can weaken several enemies at once, so a character with a strong area skill may benefit from grouping the pack and striking where the most threats overlap. That does not mean ignoring a disruptive enemy. If a ranged foe is free to attack or a blocker is pinning you in a narrow lane, remove it first, then use area damage on the remaining group.

A build built around precise single-target attacks usually gains more from choosing one high-value target and finishing it quickly. Aim for the enemy responsible for repeated interruptions, a dangerous effect, or protection for the rest of the pack. Splitting attacks across several durable foes can leave all of them active while consuming time and resources.

Some characters need a moment to establish their main skill, build resources, or place an effect. For them, the initial target should be whichever enemy is most likely to interrupt that setup. Creating distance or clearing one quick attacker can provide the brief opening needed to make the main skill effective.

Know When to Move

Continuing to attack is a poor trade when incoming pressure is rising, the target has moved out of a useful position, or your route is closing. Repositioning can separate ranged enemies from melee threats, draw a pack into a clearer lane, or give you enough room to aim. A short move that preserves your escape route is often better than finishing a low-priority enemy while surrounded.

Use a flexible check before choosing your next action.

Identify the enemy causing the most immediate interruption or harmful pressure.
Choose a target your build can remove efficiently without losing control of the fight.
Check whether attacking keeps an escape route open; move first if it does not.

After each enemy falls, reassess the pack instead of following a fixed sequence. A protected foe may become vulnerable, a ranged attacker may become the main concern, or the safest choice may be to retreat and reset the angle.
