Xbox has announced an upcoming Developer Direct event that will spotlight four upcoming games coming to Xbox in 2025.
Unlike Nintendo Directs and PlayStation's State of Play, Xbox's Developer Direct showcases are typically longer and focus on just a few titles, offering in-depth looks at each game. During the event, developers will provide detailed information and extended gameplay footage.
While Xbox has already revealed three of the games set to be featured in the January Direct, there will also be a fourth game kept under wraps until the event itself. Historically, Xbox Developer Directs have also included a surprise fifth game that wasn't previously announced, so it's possible we'll see something unexpected this time around.
The Xbox Developer Direct will take place on Thursday, January 23, 2025, and will be broadcast live at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT. If you're unable to watch the live stream, don’t worry – it will be available as a VOD on Xbox’s official YouTube channel shortly after the show ends.
So far, we know the Direct will kick off with a deeper dive into Doom: The Dark Ages. This prequel to Doom (2016) was first teased during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024, but there hasn't been much information since then. The game is slated for a 2025 release, and we'll finally get a closer look at its gameplay during the Direct.
The second game confirmed for the showcase is South of Midnight, developed by the creators of Contrast and We Happy Few. Set in the Deep South and inspired by Southern folklore, this game features a distinctive art style and has already been shown off in part during 2023. Fans are expecting to learn its release date during the Direct.
The third game that will be featured is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG inspired by popular Japanese games like Final Fantasy and Persona. With a release window set for mid-2025, Expedition 33 was announced in June 2024 and promises an intriguing adventure that fans are eager to explore.
