U4GM Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred Prep Guide for Launch

Expansion week always feels great right up until you open your stash and realise you've been hoarding junk for months. With Lord of Hatred landing on April 28, 2026, now's the time to get your character sorted, your gold stacked, and your plan locked in. If you've been meaning to clean up your gear, do it before the new season chaos starts. A lot of players wait too long, then spend day one comparing affixes and scrambling for space instead of enjoying the new zones. If you've got old legendaries sitting around and no idea what to keep, it helps to think ahead about the kind of Diablo 4 Items that will actually matter once Skovos opens up.

Finish the seasonal stuff first

The first thing to handle is Abattoir of Zir. If you've already pushed it partway, don't stop now. Patch 2.6.1 made the climb feel a lot less annoying, and the rewards actually carry some weight because they won't be around after the season ends. Titles, weapon cosmetics, little prestige things like that — they matter more once they're gone. People always say they'll come back to it later, but later doesn't exist here. Midnight hits, Season of Slaughter ends, and that's it. If you care even a little about limited rewards, knock those runs out while you still can.

Make room before the loot flood starts

Next up, your stash. Be brutal with it. Not “maybe I'll use this one day” brutal. Properly ruthless. The expansion is adding the Talisman rune system and bringing Set Bonuses back, which means even more items worth testing, storing, and swapping around. You're going to need space, and probably more than you think. A good rule is simple: if an Aspect or item hasn't left the stash in ages, it's dead weight. Salvage it, sell it, move on. Try to free up at least three full tabs before launch. It sounds excessive now, but once the new drops start piling up, you'll be glad you did.

Build up gold, mats, and account progress

After that, focus on resources. Gold is going to disappear fast between Masterworking costs and the new Horadric Cube recipes. Materials will go the same way. If there's an easy farm route you like, stick with it for the next few days and just keep banking what you can. This is also the perfect time to finish any missing Renown and Altars of Lilith. It's boring, sure, but being underprepared on launch day feels worse. Nothing kills the mood faster than having to ride back through old regions for missed stats and Paragon points while everyone else is already deep into the new continent.

Save a few rewards for the opening push

There's also one small trick that's worth doing if you want a cleaner start. During the final 24 hours, stop cashing in your last Grim Favors. Hold those Tree of Whispers caches until the expansion is live, then open them once you've reached the right level breakpoints. That little delay can give you a handy boost with materials and better gear right when progression starts to slow down. It's not flashy, but it works. And if you're trying to avoid that messy, underfunded launch-day feeling, a smart prep routine matters just as much as deciding when to buy Diablo 4 Items for the builds you actually want to play.
